Trail Grades

A guide to our trail grades

We categorise our runs by three main grades. They all count as trails, as we generally try to avoid tarmac (asphalt) as much as possible. Whatever your level or experience, all three grades of trail running will guarantee you an unforgettable experience on the Moroccan trail runs.

4×4 Track

The easiest of our trails, 4×4 tracks link several of the villages together. They are wide enough for social running and chatting, yet still access some fairly remote areas. It is rare for vehicles to pass except on the busier roads.

Berber Footpath

These were the only way of getting from village to village before the 4×4 tracks were bulldozed in. They are usually singletrack, and often have an impressive edge to them as they cling to the mountainside! Not technically challenging, they are our favourite trails to run in the Atlas Mountains. Mules and donkeys still frequently use them.

Mountain

The mountain trails are our hardest grade. Someimes there may be faint mule paths to follow on the high ridges and spurs. Other times we will be on wild mountainside with no visible track. Good footwork is essential here. These trails can be exhilirating. They are usually less exposed than the berber footpaths though.
