Three day Moroccan Trail Running Minibreak
If you love running and want to escape to exotic Morocco, then this is the tour for you. Suitable as a long weekend break it gives you the chance to run some beautiful trails and visit berber villages. You will explore pristine mountain scenery with views of the High Atlas, guided by professionals who live here and know this area intimately.
This holiday is a tour not a race, so we will run at your speed. Your enjoyment is our prime concern, and there will be plenty of opportunity of interacting with local villagers and taking photos of the stunning scenery.
For the ultimate escape from the rat-race, book our most popular trail running holiday in Morocco. Just an hour away from Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains are waiting for you to discover them.
For this holiday you will stay for three nights at a comfortable berber guesthouse. Located in the Anoughal Valley just behind the historic market town of Amizmiz, you will have views of the mountains from your balcony. Delicious traditional food of tajine and couscous, and plenty of mint tea will be awaiting you after every day’s run!
Each day we will take you on an unique run in the Atlas Mountains and foothills. The pace will be that of a running tour, not a race. We want you to enjoy the location and get the most out of your trail run in Morocco. We know these mountains intimately. We will point out the best places to take photos, and share with you rare views of the High Atlas mountains.
At this pace our 25km routes generally take about five hours to complete. The easier day of 15km will take about three hours of running. You will experience all types of trail that the Atlas have to offer, from 4×4 tracks to high mountain. Some technical ascents and descents will be mixed with easier donkey tracks. For those who wish for an additional thrill, we can even work some easy scrambles into our routes!
Example Itinerary
We can customise this holiday entirely to your needs. For beginning trail runners we offer full training and coaching as we explore easy trails and 4×4 tracks around the Anoughal valley. Its fine to combine trekking and running, especially on the uphills!
For advanced runners we offer incredible mountain runs along stunning 2500m ridgelines,up to 26km distance each day.
Day 1
After your taxi transfer and comfortable night in a berber gite, we will take you on a full mountain run. This trail will take you through the Atlas Mountain Foothills up to 2000m. Typically five hours or so of gentle running. You will have plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the amazing views over the Marrakech plains and berber valleys.
Day 2
Today we take you on another unforgettable trail run in the Atlas Mountains. Depending on how you found yesterday's mountains, we can either do a similar high route, or opt for something a little easier. Either way we will run 25km or so in stunning berber mountains.
Day 3
A shorter day to round off your holiday, we will take you on one of our favourite berber footpaths. 15km or so of running will bring you back to the gite in time for a late lunch and shower, before your taxi transfers you back to Marrakech.
