This is one of the classic mountain trail running circuits from Imlil. Crossing the Tizi Mzik pass, it brings you above the remote valley and Berber village of Tizi Oussem. The balcony trail then winds higher up the valley to to summer shepherd’s huts of Azib Tamsoult. Then it makes the strenuous ascent of the Tizi n Tziki coll, and the chance to summit Adrar Adj. At over 3100m altitude, Adrar Adj dominates the Imlil valley and is a lovely, rarely climbed summit.
The trail then zigzags steeply down towards the village of Aroumd, and back into Imlil. As it rejoins civilisation it passes the famous waterfalls, and the beautiful Kasbah du Toubkal (now a hotel).
This route is good for training to run up to Toubkal summit, as it covers a similar distance and slightly easier terrain. It is also a good introduction to running up into altitude. It is a steep mountain run but well worth the effort.
