This is one of our favorite trail runs in the area.
Winding gently uphill from the historic market town of Amizmiz, the trail passes through the first Berber village. Then you go up a short step section before following an ancient irrigation channel through a splendid pine forest. Wild boar and eagles make their home here.
20 minutes later and you will gain a small coll and splendid views down into the Anoughal valley. The option of taking in a small summit can give you views over the Marrakech plains far below.
The path then winds down towards a second berber village (Ait Hamd) before a short, steep section taking you down to a third village, Sllamt. Footing here is tricky on the steep scree, and it’s sobering to realise that the village children use this path to get to school everyday!
From Sllamt village, you will follow a splendid balcony path heading back out of the Anougual valley to the shrine of Sidi Hussein. From here it’s just a short run back to Amizmiz.
